Making choices

With years of hard work behind you, now’s the time to make sure your finances are fit for the future you want  for long after you stop working.

Whether it's saving to help your children buy a house or for your retirement, planning a long expedition or even landscaping the garden; make sure review what you want out of life and how you can achieve those all important goals.

Our top tips

Work out your goals and your budget

How much will you need to live on in future – especially once you’ve retired? Work out how much you will need to live the life you want, then work out a plan to get there. Try this budget planner to get you started.

Review your existing assets and any debts too

Work out what your assets are worth in total, less your liabilities (debts) to work out your "net worth". Identify whether there’s a gap between this and the amount you need to achieve your goals then work on accumulating that additional money through saving.

Make a Will and consider Powers of Attorney too

Ensure you and your partner have valid Wills in place. It's quick and easy to arrange but a serious problem if you die without one. A power of attorney allows someone else to make decisions on your behalf should unforeseen circumstances require this. It’s a sensible precaution to investigate this now.
