South West
Chairman Biography
Pete is Managing Director of Jacksons Wealth Management in Penzance. He followed the classic career path for our profession, working for an the Co-op Insurance Society, then wrote mortgages and life cover for Royal & SunAlliance Property Services in South Wales, before becoming an IFA in 2000. In 2002 he was finally persuaded by his Cornish wife to move to the far South West and now lives in the village of St Buryan, about five miles from Land’s End.
He then became the only staff member of an IFA practice attached to a firm of solicitors, but this was closed by mutual agreement in December 2004 whereupon he began working for Jacksons, eventually buying in to the practice in 2007.
Pete credits completing the CFPCM certification as the lightbulb moment when he realised how Financial Planning should be done. Since then has been refining his processes and steering Jacksons in the same direction.
He is an avid lover of technology and has his own site at www.petematthew.com. He has also created www.meaningfulmoney.tv, a site which uses short videos, filmed around West Cornwall, to explain the basics of Financial Planning. MeaningfulMoney has been well received culminating in Pete winning the inaugural Social Media IFA of the year award in November 2010, and the Professional Adviser award for Financial Education in February 2011. He is active on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other Social Media sites and believes that the internet is a far bigger threat to the Financial Planning status quo than the RDR.
Introduction to the branch
During 2012, the branch meetings have been structured to combine the best of the last few years, with a combination of group discussion and intelligent presentations from expert speakers. We have pulled the meetings forward to 4pm to allow delegates to get away earlier. Each meeting starts with coffee, followed by a 15 minute update from the chairman and a discussion about our progress towards the goals we want to achieve.
Then our guest speaker for the evening will present for about 45 minutes to an hour. The sessions are varied and there will be no thinly-veiled product pitches! Each topic will challenge and stretch our knowledge and experience, and help us to become better at what we do.
After the talk we will have chance to ask questions and discuss the content and how it might apply to our businesses. All IFP members are most welcome to join Pete at these meetings.
Any questions please get in touch with the Chairman, Pete Matthew on mailto:pete@jacksonswealth.com, especially if you'd like to bring along a colleague.
