CPDContinuing Professional Development (CPD) - Setting IFP Members Apart
Maintaining your knowledge, skills and professionalism is a crucial part of being a Financial Planner. All practicing members of the IFP abide by a strict code of ethics and professional standards. In addition, they demonstrate their ongoing commitment to their professional development by undertaking a programme of CPD to ensure they remain fully competent not just in the areas which are appropriate to their role, but also to develop their knowledge and skills in other areas as outlined in their personal development plans and training and competence scheme. The IFP’s CPD programme will support (and sometimes exceed) the requirements of your firm’s training and competence scheme. You will be expected to prepare a personal development plan and undertake appropriate CPD activities to support this plan. As a result, consumers can be sure that when they are working with a planner who is an IFP member, they are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards. What areas does CPD cover? CPD is essential to develop your expertise within your individual role, and to help you maintain that edge throughout your career. CPD activities can cover each of the following areas:
IFP provides workshops, seminars, training courses, branch meetings and conferences to help you meet your learning and development needs in areas related to Financial Planning. In addition to these you will probably engage in other CPD activities such as carrying out research, focused discussion with colleagues, reading, study of regulation and standards etc. Making CPD a regular part of your working week will help set you apart as a professional Financial Planner.
