Financial Planning Week 8 – 14 September 2008Learn how to Make a Difference to your financesIntroduction Recent research from Scottish Widows shows that we’d rather talk about sex and health than money. One in three adults – or around 12.4 million people – refuse to plan their finances at all, and those that do find the time to review them set aside a miserly five minutes a week. Around 15 per cent of 18 to 24- year-olds think an individual savings account (ISA) is an iPod accessory, and one in ten reckon it's an energy drink. With rising personal debt levels in Britain, and a lack of long-term savings, better money management and Financial Planning is essential. The Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) is an independent organisation established in 1986 to focus entirely on the practice of Financial Planning. IFP is coordinating this new initiative which aims to alert everyone to the importance of Financial Planning to their lives, and to help them in different ways during the week to take more control of their financial future. What is Financial Planning Week? If you are one of the 12.4 million people in the UK who have not yet discovered the benefits of getting financially “fit”, use this week to kick start your future! For those of you who are more used to planning your finances, there will be plenty of opportunity this week to find out if you are on the right track, and to give you some new ideas and opportunities to plan more effectively in future. The IFP will be coordinating a media campaign so that the press, radio and TV can help to raise awareness of the most important issues. A Financial Planning Week website will provide invaluable help and guidance across the key planning areas. It will also provide links to the large range of excellent tools, information and guides that exist elsewhere on the web. Across the UK IFP members will be giving seminars and talks FREE of charge available for the public to attend. No product pushes or sales pitches - the events are designed to provide simple guidance on the sometimes baffling world of Financial Planning. Ideal if:
Whatever your situation may be, putting some simple financial plans in place and making some smart decisions to help achieve your goals and dreams in life is the first step towards really taking control.
